Bi+ Writers Narrative Change Program

Elevating bi+ voices in mainstream media

The Need

Bi+ people are the largest part of the LGBTQ+ community — yet we’re still widely misunderstood, overlooked, and erased in media, policy, and public life. Too often, our experiences are misrepresented, reduced to stereotypes, or ignored altogether.

This invisibility has real consequences

Bi+ people face higher rates of mental health challenges, sexual violence, poverty, and workplace discrimination. These disparities only deepen at the intersections of race, gender, disability, class, and immigration status.

Despite the numbers and the need, bi+ people are rarely centered in LGBTQ+ advocacy, media coverage, or cultural storytelling. In the past 30 years, less than 7 percent of LGBTQ+ print coverage has focused on bi+ people.

Changing this means shifting the narrative — and that starts with amplifying bi+ voices. We’re here to make that happen — one byline at a time.

The Program

Rewrite the BiLine’s annual virtual cohorts bring together bi+ leaders committed to growth and bold storytelling. We use the term "bi+" to include anyone who has the capacity to experience attraction to more than one gender or who are on the multiple attraction spectrum (M-spec), including people who identify as bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, plurisexual, biromantic, fluid, queer, another label, or no label at all.

Through our signature How to Shift the Narrative & Win Change Through Op-ed Publishing workshop, participants gain a strong foundation for impactful storytelling. With one-on-one mentorship, professional editing, and hands-on support, they develop articles that challenge stigma, deepen public understanding, and drive meaningful change.

Meet our 2025 Narrative Change Cohort

In 2025, Rewrite the BiLine proudly launched the inaugural Bi+ Writers Fellowship. The 11 fellows were selected from a competitive pool of applicants from the U.S., Canada, England, France, Germany, and India. They are emerging bi+ writers and thinkers, each bringing bold ideas and unique perspectives to today’s most pressing issues. Their writing will explore topics including trans rights, breastfeeding in the workplace, compulsory monogamy, tech for liberation, and how empathy can reshape travel—and much more. We thank the brilliant Ross Victory and Lois (Lake Faith) Shearing for their coaching support for this year's cohort.

Meet our 2024 Narrative Change Cohort

Rewrite the BiLine helped publish 20 articles by 12 bi+ writers in 2024, thanks in part to our partnership with LA Progressive and Hollywood Progressive as well as catalytic funding from Echoing Green. These pieces explored race, culture, and identity, bringing much-needed bi+ perspectives to the forefront.
